*WE INTERRUPT THIS BLOG FOR A VERY IMPORTANT MESSAGE.*
Elyse has just died of happiness.
Guys. I just saw Banksy. I am seriously freaking out right now.
I downloaded this awesome "Banksy London Tour" app and set out to find some of the locations where Banksy's art is still visible and still preserved. I went out with two of the other girls who wanted to see Baker Street (which was totally awesome sorry I'm kind of just skimming over that... I'm just so overwhelmed with the fact I saw something of Banksy's... More on Sherlock later. (: ) The app is really cool because it finds your location and maps out the closest Bansky artwork. So, conveniently, there happened to be two not far from 221b Baker Street. Also quite conveniently it happened to be his famous "If graffiti changed anything- it would be illegal." piece. I was honestly not expecting to see it. I knew some of his work has been preserved but I didn't want to get my hopes up only to get there and see it painted over. We were on the street with three blocks to go. Two blocks to go. One block. Clipstone Street. The app said we were right on top of it. We turned the corner and HOLYOHMYGOODNESSTHEREITISAHHHHSTARTFREAKINGOUT!!!
I am having a lot of trouble being articulate. It was just amazing. Can't even describe it. I may or may not have started tearing up...slightly embarrassing. But ahh it was even more amazing in person. I was very happy to find it was preserved by plexiglass. Something else that made me smile was a little stencil of Pope Benedict! I don't know this may be boarder line blasphemous but it was kind of like he was giving his blessing on Banksy. ;)
The other location was only a few streets over. This tag was a little harder to find. I knew it was on a light post but wasn't quite sure which one. Nicole actually spotted it and called me over. Sure enough, up on the post was a tag of Banksy's name! (Ha name tag).
This was basically the best excursion ever. When we go back to London, I am going to spend a whole day going around finding his tags (:
Okay, more later, just had to share this with the world.
Cheers!
